Wow, huh?

This is something that came in my Cuteoverload blog last week and I just had to share. I wish we all could get along like these fellows, especially during these contentious political times! Mary Ann

Frightfully Fun Halloween Stationery!

With the doom and gloom of the economy swirling around us, it's hard to get excited about anything these days. But I can't help feeling a bit tickled over my new line of Halloween gift tags, invitations and address labels...they're just that much fun! And what's even better, I've had a blast designing them. Here's a sample...check out the rest in our Holiday Boutique. Ellen

This is Who Belongs in the Cat Bed

In Monday's post, I showed Gregory trying to fit into the cat bed. Well, this is who actually belongs in it....

Dewey the Cat's New Book

I have to confess, I got a little teary-eyed this morning while reading the USA Today feature about a cat who spent his entire life amongst the books at the Spencer Public Library in Iowa. Adopted by the librarians in 1988 who found him abandoned in the book depository as a kitten, Dewey become a fixture at the library until his death in 2006. With the release of Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter (Grand Central, 277 pp. $19.99), Dewey will live on in libraries across the country. Something to smile about in these shaky times... Ellen

And The Winner Is:

Geauga Humane Society
Jan from Ohio, who told us about the Geauga Humane Society, won our $25 drawing for the contest that was advertised in our last newsletter. (Our 2nd newsletter will be out later this month so stay tuned for our next promo! - you can sign up for our newsletter here: BFS) Thank you Jan!

The Geauga Humane Society is located in Russell Township, Ohio and was founded in 1974. It is now located on a 14 acre parcel of land on Chilliccothe Road and has been named Rescue Village. I will write more about this wonderful shelter in our upcoming newsletter....but if you can't wait, please click on the link above for more info.

Thanks again for all of you who entered our contest! Don't forget your local animal shelter when you are considering adopting your next pet. So many animals need a loving home - especially in these down economic times when pets are being abandoned much too frequently. They will give you more joy than you can possibly imagine in return. Just like my Gregory above who thinks the cat bed is his! Have a good week everyone! Mary Ann

Fur Busters

I adore our cat and dog, but sometimes the amount of fur that they shed all over the house makes me crazy. Recently, I foolishly fell in love with and purchased a dark chocolate-colored rug from West Elm for our family room. Not the best choice when you have a yellow, almost white, labrador retriever in the house. But the rug was perfect so I reconciled myself to dragging out the big vacuum on a daily basis.

Of course, this soon become the chore from hell so this past weekend my 12-year-old son Alex and I headed to Target to purchase a lighter-weight vacuum, my thought being that I would turn over the fur busting to my capable children. After surveying the array of electric brooms, we settled on the Eureka Electrolux Ergorapido 2-in-1 Sweeper, not the cheapest model by any means, but it looked like it would stand up to frequent usage.

With its rechargeable battery, this 5-lb powerhouse has traveled all over our house, sucking up fur under chairs, in corners...you name it. And the best thing about it? My son loves it and has been vacuuming up fur every day, without being told. Now that's money well spent! Ellen

Walk on the Wild Side

I wanted to share with you all a great idea for a party favor for a girl's birthday. A friend of mine had personalized cards made of Ellen's "Wild Side" design for all the girls at her daughter's birthday party and they LOVED them! The moms went crazy over them, too! You should check them out. She offers them with cats, dogs and horses. Mary Ann

I want to give a big shout out to Moira McLaughlin over at Dog Art Today for her article about my pillows on her blog! She has an awesome blog that is all about (you guessed it) dog art, so go check it out. She also has a really cool shop over on Etsy. That's one of her pieces above!

A Little Caffeine to Start the Week

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. I saw this photo on Cute Overload and thought it was a good way to get this short week started. Now I just need to head over to Starbucks and get one of those for myself!
